Laptop Slowing Down all of a sudden

Hello fellow users,

I have a HP Pavilion DM4-1165dx notebook on window 7 home premium.

The Problem-

Yesterday, after logging in on my laptop, I noticed the welcome message took longer than usual. Then there was a black screen with just the cursor on it. After about an hour, the screen proceeded to the desktop state. The processing of any program was very, very slow (took ten minutes to complete any action), and it couldn't detect any wifi.

What I tried to solve this problem-

I tried to take out the battery (which wasn't warm) and it didn't work. I also tried safe mode, still didn't work. I tried the reset method, plug out anything external, take out battery, shutdown, and help the power button for a minute, put everything else back, still didn't work. Not being cooperative many times, I had to force shutdown couple of times (hold the power button). Later, I left it on by itself, for a couple of hours, yet it took longer to get to desktop screen. And still processing was very very slow.

Today-

I turned it on in hopes for it to recover but the problem remains. For the very first time, I saw the BSOD (blue screen of death) which made me worry a lot and thus I am asking for help here.

What I suspect-

Its either a hardware crash, or a virus. I did download/do anything weird or unusual that I haven't done before. It was just another day on the Laptop. If its hardware, how can save my files?

Please help me ASAP. Any help will be appreciated.
